I don't really know much about the knockoffs of Dawn & Friends, but I'm learning.  I think that Pippa, made in England, by Palitoy, is probably the nicest of the knockoffs that I have seen.  They have metal pin joints at the knees with solid, hard plastic legs and are very well made.

Rock Flowers by Mattel

The Rock Flowers are about the same size as Dawn.  They are Heather, Lilac, Rosemary, Iris and Doug.  In contrast to Dawn Dolls, the Rock Flowers have rubber bodies that are all one piece (no joints) with wires inside so they can bend and pose.  They also do not have rooted eyelashes.  My husband thinks they are pretty groovy.  I think he likes their packaging and wildly colored clothes better than Dawn's.  Myself, I think they're nice, but I love their clothes.  I just have one of each of the girls except Iris, and any other groovy outfits I get go right on my Dawn Dolls.  I never had any Rock Flowers as a girl, so they are not a must for me to collect.  One of these days, I am going to have to listen to their records!

Pretty Knockoffs
  • Here is a Lil' Disco Doll by Fun World *. She looks like a no bangs Glori knockoff. I think she's pretty cool. I can't tell you when they made her either. There is no date on the package.
  • Pretty blonde wearing the Rock Flowers Indian Gauchos
  • Diana doll * - Longlocks look-alike with Angie's hair
  • Dawn Knockoff * wearing a variation Dawn red & gold zigzag mini
  • Cara * doll MIP
  • Cara * wearing a blue & white unknown dress - Do you know who made it?
Not So Good-looking Knockoffs
  • 2 Hong Kong Knockoffs * - Here are a couple of dolls that have solid (not hard plastic) legs and arms.  The one on the left is made quite well, but her face is elongated and is not that attractive. The one on the right has a nicer face, but her body parts are not made as uniformly as they should be  - giving her an out-of-line kind of look.

  • Mort Alexander & Hong Kong Knockoffs * new pic - Both of these are made quite nicely - all the body parts are proportionate in size and the way they fit together. The first doll pictured is another Hong Kong doll with hollow plastic body and hollow rubbery legs.  Her face if pretty nice and she has rooted eyelashes although some are missing.  The second doll is made by Mort Alexander, Ltd.  Her face is very rough looking, but she is made nicely and is the only one so far with a company name on her.
* I no longer own the dolls marked with this symbol. (this usually refers to the dolls only)
